Does Pre-Workout Actually Help You Do More Sets That Build Muscle?

Caffeine provides a small, genuine boost to single-rep strength and reps-to-failure, but no study has measured whether that translates to more productive training sessions. Caffeine does improve performance. Multiple independent meta-analyses — covering thousands of people — confirm: the improvement is real, consistent, and small. A measurable nudge to how much you can lift on a single maximal attempt, and a slightly larger boost to how many reps you can push before failure at a fixed load.

After roughly ten weekly sets per muscle group, each additional set buys progressively less growth. The first ten do the heavy lifting on the dose-response curve.
