The explanation is one amino acid, not nine. At 30 grams of protein, the plant blend delivered 2.4 grams of leucine — and leucine is what actually triggers muscle building. Once enough leucine arrives, the trigger fires. The other eight essential amino acids were present in wildly different amounts, and the muscle ignored the difference. The scorecard was grading nine variables. The body was checking one.
The experiment used healthy young men using protein isolates, not whole foods, over a single five-hour window after one meal. Whether the same disconnect holds across different ages or protein sources over months of consistent eating is a question this experiment was not built to answer.
