The first is timing. Metabolic rate measured immediately after a diet — while the body is still adjusting to eating less — comes back artificially low. That measurement gap alone can make someone’s metabolism look five to fifteen percent slower than it actually is. Wait a few weeks at a stable weight, and the numbers climb back to exactly where they belong for the body’s new size. The damage was a badly timed snapshot, not a scar.
