One number cut deeper than the rest. Fat burners exist to raise your baseline calorie burn. The pooled data pointed the other direction — chronic supplementation was tied to a slight decrease in resting metabolic rate in the majority of study populations. Strength told a different story. Caffeine’s effect on raw strength — how hard your muscles can push during a set — showed a small but real improvement. A completely separate analysis of more than two thousand people landed on almost the same number. Same molecule that produced a zero for fat loss. A replicated positive for strength.

Daily coffee drinkers — roughly two out of three adults — get about a quarter of the strength benefit that people who rarely consume caffeine get from the same dose. The supplement doesn’t disappear. Most of the strength evidence comes from men under thirty. Only three of the ten trials included women, and those results weren’t strong enough to count. For anyone over forty — an age range not represented in a single study — the small real benefit may shrink further, or may not exist.
