Psyllium husk racked up more than 26,000 posts as "nature's Ozempic" — a sixteen-dollar fiber supplement marketed to do the appetite job of a thousand-dollar-per-month drug. Across the supplement aisle, resistant starch and glucomannan sell with the same promise. When researchers mapped every commercially available fiber type against appetite outcomes, the bestsellers landed near the bottom of the list.

The largest systematic mapping of fiber and appetite tested 38 commercially available fiber types across 107 separate treatments. 61% of those treatments had zero measurable effect on how full people felt. For the harder outcome — whether people actually ate less — 78% showed no benefit.
