The entire deal rests on one assumption: that the sweat rolling off you is carrying alcohol out of your body.
Can you sweat out alcohol with a workout
The liver processes 92 to 98 percent of ingested alcohol through enzymes that work at a fixed rate regardless of physical activity. Sweat, breath, and urine combined eliminate only 2 to 10 percent. Exercise cannot accelerate a rate already set by enzyme capacity — and while alcohol is present, fat oxidation drops by 87 percent.

The deal was built on the smaller number.
And the liver’s speed is locked. Its processing capacity tops out after roughly one drink’s worth of alcohol. Once at capacity, it runs at a single constant pace — whether you are sprinting, sitting, or sleeping. A harder workout does not create a faster liver. The clearance rate is set by how fast the liver can work, and exercise has no authority over it.
The dead deal was the obvious loss. While alcohol is present, the workout itself is paying a separate price.
With alcohol in the system, the body’s ability to burn fat drops by 87 percent. Fat burning does not slow down gradually. It nearly stops — because alcohol has taken over as the primary fuel source.
The workout was not clearing a debt. It was running on the debt — burning alcohol instead of the fat you came to burn.
One honest qualifier: no study has directly compared clearance rates in exercising versus resting drinkers. The conclusion follows from the pharmacokinetics — a system running at full capacity cannot be pushed faster by external effort. The mechanism is settled. The direct experiment is still missing.
The sweat myth is the question people ask first. The question that changes more is what happens to fat burning after the alcohol clears — and how long that 87 percent suppression actually lasts.
